Dental implants are a mystery to many people but one of the greatest contributions to the field of dentistry for helping people. A person can now go from losing a tooth or several teeth to being able to eat virtually anything.
An implant is basically a post, if you will. The ones we use are made of titanium alloys because they are strong and integrate well with the bone, making it a safer and faster healing process.
The implants are attached to the jaw where your teeth are missing. Now we have asolid anchor that allow us to attach teeth to them. These implants will also help in keeping your jaw structure as it is and restoring those good looks of yours.
Sometimes we have to conduct bone grafting. When we remove a tooth, it leaves a hole where the tooth previously was. If we don’t fill the hole, the body will fill the space with the least effort required, which could cause a collapse in the height and width of the hole. Bone grafting is used to preserve your ridge. With bone grafting, we add a material that causes your own body to both create bone and absorb the material so that you have a good, solid foundation back.
The procedure is conducted in the office under local anesthesia and the procedure only takes 30 to 60 minutes’ time for the insertion of the post. At this time, we will place temporary teeth over the implant while your bone has a chance to grow and the implant integrates with your jaw. In the second phase, 4-6 months later, we create an attachment device that will allow the new teeth to securely attach to the implant(s).
Not everybody is a candidate for an implant, and we would have to fully examine your mouth in order to ascertain if it can work for you. Give us a call at (760) 761- 0905 today and speak to Dr Petrova to ascertainzx what she can do for you!
